Traversing this place at night strains all your senses, but you find your wanderlust compelling you to head deeper and deeper in. You often stumble over tree roots you fail to spot and almost end up slipping into the marsh\PYZsq{}s bottomless abyss. The mere thought of being entombed in these muddy waters is hardly a pleasant one, so you instead focus on where you are going. Bravely continuing onwards, you force aside the dense foliage obstructing your path and gaze upon a huge structure. It appears you have stumbled across what was once a noble\PYZsq{}s massive mansion. This previously posh place has obviously fared poorly throughout the passing years. Most of the dark red paint coating its exterior has been chipped away from exposure to the bog\PYZsq{}s harsh humidity. Countless vines climb all over the building in a way that makes it appear as though they are coiling around it. The sight makes you wonder whether they\PYZsq{}re the only things keeping this old mansion together. All the windows you can spot are either broken or covered in cracks. Despite being rusty, a tall fence built from sturdy iron continues to admirably protect the mansion from would\PYZhy{}be plunderers. Cautiously, you [walk] along the outside of the corroded barrier until you arrive at an iron gate in a similar state. A gentle touch causes it to sluggishly open with a long, foreboding [i:\PYZob{}screech\PYZcb{}]. The sheer shrillness of the sound sends shivers racing up your spine. It appears the old gate has no intention of doing its job to stop any uninvited guests from entering the mansion. How fortunate for you. You traverse the fragmented cobblestone walkway leading to the manor\PYZsq{}s massive\PYZhy{}looking front doors. Upon reaching the porch, you find many holes have formed in the aged wood. One can only hope that the mansion\PYZsq{}s inner workings aren\PYZsq{}t as rotted. Both front doors are covered in hairline cracks. They serve as the final barrier you face before being able to enter this mansion\PYZsq{}s confines. You notice one door is already ajar for you. [Enter] .tooltip = You shall enter this place. [Leave] .tooltip = Perhaps you\PYZsq{}ll visit another time. //if leave; Deciding you will consider visiting another time, you turn around and [walk] away from the desolate mansion. As you are leaving, you can swear you sense a pair of hungry eyes burning themselves into your back. The bog is eerily quiet and not even the usual insects are making a single sound. Your blood runs cold as you turn around to stare back at the decaying dwelling once again. In one of the second\PYZhy{}floor windows, you manage to catch a white curtain faintly flutter for a second before it comes to a gentle stop. It might have been a mere draft, but maybe someone... or perhaps some[i:thing], was observing you? You hurry away from the old mansion and head for the safety of your camp. Although the dwelling is no longer close by, you find yourself unable to fully forget the uneasy sensation it instilled in your heart. [Next] //encountering the Bog Manor; time is 9 pm \PYZhy{} 12 am; repeat until pc enters mansion and meets the vampire sisters or selects never. You once again come across the forsaken manor sitting within this bleak bog. The structure seemingly beckons to you, drawing you back to its two immense front doors before you even realize what you\PYZsq{}re doing. As though you\PYZsq{}re bewitched, you reach for the door\PYZsq{}s handle. You just barely manage to stop yourself to consider whether you [b:really] should enter this strange home or not... [Enter] .tooltip = You choose to explore this place. [Never] .tooltip = You decide to avoid this forsaken home for good. [Leave] .tooltip = Perhaps you\PYZsq{}ll explore its confines another time. //reuse the leave from before; //if Never; Disable this encounter and Roll new bog encounter; Backing away from the mansion, you decide exploring it is not worth the risks, and resolve to avoid this place indefinitely from now on. As it is often said, [i:\PYZob{}Curiosity killed the cat.\PYZcb{}] Stopping at the gate, you find yourself looking back at the manor just in time to spot the previously ajar door slowly shut. You hurry away from the desolate dwelling, leaving any and all secrets it may hold to be unearthed by someone else. [Next] //if enter; You decide to explore the manor and gently push open the worn wooden door. It lets out a creepy [i:creak] as it slowly opens and allows you to enter the mansion\PYZsq{}s musty confines. [Next] //Room 1; Main hall \PYZam{} Stairs; The mansion\PYZsq{}s spacious main hall has surely seen better days. Gold\PYZhy{}and\PYZhy{}green wallpaper is peeling away in long strips, revealing musty mold growing on the wood previously concealed beneath it. Numerous dark stains mar the wooden floor with what you can only hope isn\PYZsq{}t dried blood from some previous plunderer. A chandelier made out of glass, covered in dusty cobwebs, hangs from a rusted chain. It appears to sway ever so slightly. You believe it would be wise to avoid walking under it, just in case. There\PYZsq{}s a grand wooden staircase covered with a red carpet leading up to the next floor. You could also venture down one of the long halls to your left or right. [Upstairs] [West] [Leave] [East] //Room 2; East hall A; Venturing into the eastern hall has the wooden floor groan under your weight. Numerous cobwebs decorate the ceiling in an almost beautiful fashion. Failing to spot any spiders lurking above, you suppose the weavers have long since abandoned their creations. There is an old door here with a grimy handle that appears to be unlocked. [North] [West] [East] //Room 11; Servants\PYZsq{} Quarters; This room seems oddly small. It contains multiple moldy beds which are all closely packed together. A few worn wardrobes line the wall too. Perhaps this is where the mansion\PYZsq{}s servants once slept? You can only ponder what could have ever happened to them all. [Wardrobes] .tooltip = Maybe you can find something in the wardrobes? [South] //pc chooses to search the wardrobes; maybe pc finds a maid outfit? Searching through the old wardrobes, you manage to find some clothes. They appear in passable shape should you wish to take them. You doubt anyone will mind. [Next] //Room 3; East hall B; You explore further down the hall. A broken window lets in a slight draft. All the pointy glass shards from it appear to be brushed into a neat pile right beneath the dust\PYZhy{}caked window sill. [West] [East] //Room 4; Dining room; This room holds an impressively lengthy table that surely served grand feasts for this once honorable house. Now it seems to only hold disappointing banquets of dust. The comfortable chairs which flank the table are all neatly tucked in. It almost feels like they are patiently waiting for someone to use them again someday. A few oil lamps adorn the walls, thick cobwebs coating their insides. You discover they unfortunately lack the fuel required to illuminate this room any longer. [North] [West] //Room 5; Kitchen; The mansion\PYZsq{}s kitchen is delightfully spacious. It has a brick oven built into the far wall and a wood\PYZhy{}burning stove covered in brown rust and other dark grime set up in a corner. A thick layer of dust cakes the long countertops. There are a few cabinets and cupboards that might be worth searching, but you doubt it\PYZsq{}d be healthy to eat any leftover food you might find here. [Search] .tooltip = Search the cabinets. [North] [South] //If pc \PYZsq{}searches\PYZsq{} the cabinets; finds a \PYZdq{}dirty silver platter\PYZdq{}; [D.S. Platter] .tooltip = A silver platter that was once beautiful. Perhaps you should clean it up?; Scrounging though the old cabinets, you manage to find yourself a dirty silver platter. You figure you could probably clean it up and sell it off for a humble profit. [Next] //Room 6; Pantry; You find yourself in a rather small closet which has countless long shelves placed all the way up its three walls. Each is stocked with numerous glass jars. The labels have long since faded, making it impossible for you to discern what they might contain. This space probably once served as the mansion\PYZsq{}s pantry. [South] //Room 7; West hall A; The western hall has a dirty dark red carpet running down its entire length. Some marble pillars are evenly spaced throughout it. It seems like they might\PYZsq{}ve displayed objects in the past. Whether they had any real value, or were merely for some artistic merit is a mystery you will probably never solve. There is also a scratched\PYZhy{}up door here that\PYZsq{}s unlocked. [North] [West] [East] //Room 19; Head maid\PYZsq{}s dorm; This room is fairly small, but feels larger than it really is due to how little it contains. The moldy mattress is missing both its pillows and coverings, leaving it completely bare. A desk tucked up against the far wall is coated in a thick layer of dust that has you doubting anyone has made any recent use of it. The final piece of furniture the room has is a wardrobe, which has tragically fallen onto its front. [South] //Room 8; West hall B; Going further down the hall, you come across a cracked window that provides you the chance to gaze back out into the ominous bog. You feel unsure if this mansion is a better place to be, but at least you aren\PYZsq{}t being assaulted by any demons or corrupted beasts (not yet at least). At the end of the hall, you can see there are two rusted suits of plate armor set up. They flank the door to the next room and almost appear like they\PYZsq{}re guarding whatever might be in there. [North] [East] //Room 9; Library; The smell of musty paper assaults your nostrils as you come to stand in what was once surely an impressive library. Tragically, many of the towering bookshelves have fallen over each other like dominoes. The numerous tomes they may have held are all spread across the filthy floor in an utterly thoughtless fashion. Two comfy leather armchairs face towards a large window that happens to let in some light from the [moon]. The dust\PYZhy{}covered table set up between the two chairs has an oil lamp resting on top of it. Sadly, the lamp is covered by dusty cobwebs and contains no fuel. A grand piano, sheltered by a white cloth, sits off in a far corner. You find the instrument\PYZsq{}s keys are unfortunately locked away, leaving you to only wonder whether it still works at all. There is a door covered in elegant engravings at the back of the library. [Search] .tooltip = [if (first time \PYZam{} didn\PYZsq{}t take/use the book) You search through some of the old books|You\PYZsq{}ve already searched through the old books and doubt you\PYZsq{}ll find anything else of use]. [North] [South] //If Search; pc finds random spellbook; You pick up one of the old tomes from the floor and see its text has tragically faded away to the point of illegibility. Tossing the book aside, you pick up another and struggle to open it as its pages are all oddly stuck together. Giving up on it quickly, you move onto another tome only to find its pages faded, while some others have sadly been torn out. You continue your search until eventually finding a [spellbook] which was hidden under all the other ruined texts. Flipping through its pages lets you see it is in a fair enough condition for you to still read. [Next] //pc didn\PYZsq{}t have enough space; didn\PYZsq{}t take the spell book or use it right away; You don\PYZsq{}t have room in your pack for this book right now and feel like taking the time to read it here would be unwise. Putting the [spellbook] back for now, you figure you could likely return for it at a later time. [Next] //Room 10; Study You find yourself standing in a mostly dark room containing an old desk and a comfortable\PYZhy{}looking wooden chair which is neatly tucked in. The desk is rather clean and has an impressive pile of old books resting on it. Examining the texts reveals they\PYZsq{}re all fairytales for young children. Almost none of them appear to end happily. [South] //Room 12; Upper hallway A; The upper hallway is long and has a dirty crimson carpet running down its whole length like a guide. A door lies at the end of it, though there are a few other rooms up here too that you can explore at your leisure. [North] [Downstairs] //Room 13; Upper Hallway B; Venturing further through the hallway makes the old wooden floor let out a worry\PYZhy{}inducing groan. You can only pray the floor doesn\PYZsq{}t decide to just collapse beneath you. A painting hangs on the right wall. While a little dirty now, it is of a hillside covered in colorful flowers. Perhaps the location depicted is a real place you could actually manage to see somewhere? The passing thought that demons will have already laid waste to it long ago is oddly depressing. A step after the painting, there are two old wooden doors to your left and right. [North] [West] [South] [East] //Room 14; Guest room 1; This room has a window that provides you a depressing sight of the manor\PYZsq{}s currently ill\PYZhy{}maintained backyard. A messy bed is covered in stains and is missing its sheets too. You\PYZsq{}re certain long ago it would have been rather comfortable to sleep. There is a desk pressed up against the far wall caked in a thick layer of dust. The chair which was once tucked into it has been left carelessly knocked over. [East] //Room 15; Tea room; You find yourself in a room which has a round table covered by a white cloth. It is sitting in front of a large window whose glass is both cracked and chipped. Gazing out the window lets you look past the fenced\PYZhy{}in front yard and out into the unwelcoming bog. Three comfy\PYZhy{}looking chairs are each neatly tucked into the table. It\PYZsq{}s as though they are patiently waiting for the day they will be used again. There is a cupboard against the far wall which contains a few lovely blue and white teacups with matching plates. They are so clean, that the teacup\PYZsq{}s golden handles glimmer in an almost wonderous fashion. [West] //Room 16; Upper hallway C; You finally come to the end of the long hallway. In front of you is a worn door that\PYZsq{}s covered in elegant engravings. To your right is a simpler door coated in countless scratches. [North] [South] [East] //Room 17; Guest room 2; You find yourself in a room with a once comfy bed and an old wooden rocking chair. The bed is covered in odd dark brown stains that make you think it\PYZsq{}d be a bad idea to sleep in it now. The window is broken, though the little glass shards from it are neatly placed into an easily avoidable pile underneath the windowsill. [West] //Room 18; Master bedroom; PC meets Fran and Emily; The mansion\PYZsq{}s master bedroom is spacious, to say the least. It contains a luxurious bed that was once surely fit for a king. You find it unfortunately covered in musty mold and other filth. It\PYZsq{}s unlikely even the most desperate beggars would use it anymore. An impressive vanity mirror has tragically been shattered. You fail to locate any shards from it laying around. The old wardrobe appears to be in decent shape. It is large enough that it could easily contain countless outfits. There\PYZsq{}s a stone fireplace that has some sheets messily laid out before it. Taking a closer look, you see the pile of ash in it has some embers which still valiantly flicker with life. [Bed] .tooltip = Check under the bed. [Sheets] .tooltip = Look closer at the sheets. [Vanity] .tooltip = Check out the vanity. [Wardrobe] .tooltip = Search through the wardrobe. [Leave] .tooltip = Perhaps it\PYZsq{}d be wiser to abandon your exploration of the mansion instead. //if leave; Looking around the room, you start to consider halting your exploration here. It is certainly possible someone, or even something, might be lying in wait, biding its time for a chance to ambush you. You\PYZsq{}ve no intention of letting anything have the opportunity of attacking you. Hurrying to the mansion\PYZsq{}s exit, you leave the place behind and make your way back to your camp. [Next] //if Bed; Could there be something under the bed? [if (pc is a child) Hopefully there aren\PYZsq{}t any monsters under it, as this would surely be the sort of place they would hide|While you doubt there are any monsters lurking under the bed, you suppose it surely wouldn\PYZsq{}t hurt for you to check it out]. Approaching the moldy mattress, you take a deep breath and steel your resolve before instantly ducking down to see what could be lying in wait! You find the space under the bed holds nothing of interest, unless you desired to meet a few dust bunnies. [Next] //if sheets; Taking a closer look at the sheets, you guess they were being used as makeshift bedding. They\PYZsq{}re even still a little warm to the touch too. [Next] //if Vanity; pc finds a silver ring; Approaching the vanity, you can\PYZsq{}t help but take a moment appreciate its craftsmanship. The dark brown wood is covered in elegant engravings with a gold trim that gives it a rather posh presence. It\PYZsq{}s a shame the mirror was shattered. You gently grab its drawer and manage to pull it open without much resistance. Looking inside reveals that the only object the vanity currently contains is a single, shiny silver ring. You pick it up, rolling the cool metal band around in your hand [if (pc has space) before pocketing|while considering to pocket] it. [Next] //pc puts ring back because they have no space in their inventory; You unfortunately don\PYZsq{}t have any room for this ring, so you put it back in the drawer where you found it for now. [Next] //if wardrobe; Looking around the room has your eyes fall upon the lone wardrobe and you conclude it would be a reasonable place to check. As you slowly approach it, you barely manage to see its doors slightly move. You likely wouldn\PYZsq{}t have noticed the faint movements if you weren\PYZsq{}t focusing on it. Could something be hiding in there? You don\PYZsq{}t feel any drafts in here that could make it move on its own. Cautiously, you continue to venture closer and closer to the wardrobe until a sound reaches your ears. While the noise is just barely audible, you\PYZsq{}re able to hear someone... or perhaps something... breathing heavily from inside the wardrobe\PYZsq{}s confines. Maybe whatever is lurking inside is afraid of you, or perhaps, it\PYZsq{}s anticipating whatever small chance it has left to ambush you. [Out] .tooltip = Explain you don\PYZsq{}t desire to harm whoever is hiding in the wardrobe, but request they show themselves! [Open] .tooltip = Pull open the doors to confront whatever horrific monster lies in wait! [Leave] .tooltip = It might be better to just leave while you can. //Leave; You choose to not investigate any further. It is likely whatever might be lurking inside is just trying to avoid you and desires to be left alone. After all, it would have surely attacked you already if it had wanted to do so. Backing away from the wardrobe, you leave the room and make for the musty mansion\PYZsq{}s exit. You backtrack through the bog until you safely arrive at your camp. [Next] //if out; You request whoever is hiding in the wardrobe to come out and then explain how you don\PYZsq{}t desire to bring any harm to them. There is no response at first, but the heavy breathing you were hearing before has gone completely silent now. You wait a few more quiet moments before you finally hear a voice that sounds like it belongs to a scared, little girl utter, [say: I... I can\PYZsq{}t!] The voice hurriedly explains, [say: My\PYZhy{}My big sister told me I have to stay hid\PYZhy{}hidden until she comes back... an\PYZhy{}and— And I\PYZsq{}m not supposed to be talking to strangers either!] [Name?] .tooltip = Introduce yourself and then ask what her name is. That way, you two won\PYZsq{}t be strangers anymore! [Goodbye] .tooltip = Well, if she won\PYZsq{}t talk to you, then you\PYZsq{}ll just be going. //if Goodbye; Well... if she doesn\PYZsq{}t want to talk to you then you guess you will just leave her be. You try offering a goodbye to whoever is lurking in the wardrobe and receive no response at all. She did explain how she is not supposed to talk to strangers, so you figure that makes sense. You exit the master bedroom and move through the mansion\PYZsq{}s creaking halls until you find your way back outside again. Taking a final glance back at the mansion, you push your way through the bog\PYZsq{}s dense foliage and begin to your journey home. [Next] //if name? You introduce yourself to the girl in the wardrobe as [name] before asking what her own might be. When she does not answer, you explain once she tells you her name, you two won\PYZsq{}t be strangers anymore because you\PYZsq{}ve already told her yours. She still doesn\PYZsq{}t answer, and you suppose she might not be accepting your reasoning, but then the wardrobe opens just a crack and you get a glimpse of one glowing red eye. The girl in the wardrobe shyly exclaims, [say: Fr\PYZhy{}Fran! My\PYZhy{}My\PYZhy{}My name is Fran! So... So, now we\PYZsq{}re not strangers anymore, right?] You offer Fran a nod to reassure her that is the case. [say: Then... Then that means we can talk to each other and my big sister won\PYZsq{}t be upset about it!] You\PYZsq{}re somewhat certain her elder sister will still get upset she is talking to you, but decide to not mention that for now. [say: I... I still have to keep hiding until she gets back... so we can\PYZsq{}t really play or anything right now [name]... I\PYZsq{}m sorry,] the girl adds in a disheartened tone. Even though she won\PYZsq{}t exit the wardrobe, you can at least ask any questions you might have for her. [Sister?] .tooltip = Ask Fran about her sister. [Mansion?] .tooltip = Ask Fran about the mansion. //if Sister?; jump to \PYZdq{}Emily appears\PYZdq{} section; You ask for Fran tell you a little about her older sister. I\PYZsq{}m really hungry. Ma\PYZhy{}Maybe we can play together after I eat...?] Curious, you question what sort of games she might have mind for you two to play. [Next] //if Mansion?; jump to \PYZdq{}Emily appears\PYZdq{} section; You question Fran on what she can tell you about this odd mansion. [say: I don\PYZsq{}t really know anything about it... Ummm... You have to promise not to tell anyone, okay?] the girl nervously requests and doesn\PYZsq{}t answer until you finally agree. [say: Me and my big sis are just staying here while she thinks about where we\PYZsq{}re going to go next. She said we\PYZsq{}re just borrowing it, but I don\PYZsq{}t think she asked whoever owns it if we could use it!] Curious, you start asking where Fran and her sister are from. [Next] //If the pc selected to open the wardrobe; You quickly pull open the doors to the wardrobe and slightly jump back as you hear the shrill scream of a young girl pierce your [ears]. Sitting inside the wardrobe, you\PYZsq{}re able to see a small figure hugging her knees while fearfully trembling in what must be pure terror. She is clad in a tattered black robe that is clearly too big on her childlike body. Her oversized hood is currently pulled tightly over her head, keeping her visage completely obscured from your gaze. Based on her size, you estimate she could be around [if (pc child) \PYZob{}your own age\PYZcb{}|\PYZob{}the same age of some young kids from back home\PYZcb{}]. [Apologize] .tooltip = Hoping to calm the girl down, you apologize before attempting to introduce yourself. [Leave] .tooltip = You choose to leave the young girl alone and exit the mansion. //Leave; Perhaps feeling awkward about not finding some vicious monster or beast lying in wait for you, you decide it\PYZsq{}d be best to just leave the scared girl you discovered alone. Without offering any apology to the shivering figure, you carefully back away from the wardrobe and hurry to exit the room. Working your way back through the mansion\PYZsq{}s ominously creaking halls, you leave the not so abandoned place behind and return to the safety of your camp. [Next] //if apologize; After first offering her an apology, you introduce yourself and then ask who she is. She raises her head a little to glance at you, though her robe\PYZsq{}s hood still manages to keep most of her visage hidden from your sight. You\PYZsq{}re able to see that the lower portion of her face looks human enough, with soft\PYZhy{}looking lips on a skin so pale, you start to think she may have [b:never] seen the sun before. [say: You\PYZhy{}You\PYZsq{}re not... going... going to hur\PYZhy{}hurt me?] she asks in a terrified voice. You explain how you will not harm her so long as she does not try attacking you first. It seems knowing you\PYZsq{}re not hostile has gotten her to stop shaking a little at least. There\PYZsq{}s a moment of silence that passes as she simply stares at you. You then watch as the girl slowly shuts the wardrobe in what must be a pointless attempt to reset her hiding place. She quietly informs you, [say: My... My... My big sister told me that I am not supposed to talk to any strangers! I\PYZsq{}m sorry...] [Reason] .tooltip = You explain to the girl how if she tells you her name, then you two won\PYZsq{}t be strangers anymore because you have already told her what your own name is.
