Re: 4-Chan Resources

4-chan and 8-chan were some of the first mostly anonymous forums where people started to post really, really horrible things (and still do.) Be careful if you go there because you will not be able to unsee some awful things. They pop up a lot in threats investigations as well as all sorts of other crimes. To be fair some use them for political chatter and other purposes, but there is a lot of bad stuff on there.
They are very uncooperative with LE although technically 4-chan is subject to legal requests as its out of California. 8-chan is another story and prides itself on being more open and anonymous:

One reason they are tricky to investigate (in addition to the uncooperative owners) is that you do not have to make an account to use it and many just post with a standard user name of Anonymous.

I definitely do not really have much to contribute, but I am looking forward to reading your guide. I feel like the main problem is that over time many of the posts are purged I believe? Some of the boards probably move slow enough to go back and look into things if you need to, otherwise you're probably SOL. Like I said I am interested to see what you have already compiled though.

Re: 4-Chan Resources

Yes. I will mention up front if you are LE and want something off of 4chan it will not be there long so make sure to 1) capture it (hunchly or addon of choice. and 2) send them a preservation letter ASAP. They only accept email or physical mail requests, no phone. Their compliance is available on search.org like most frequent providers.
I do not have a silver bullet or a ton of tools, but at the very least I'm going to look at doing a write up and possibly a video walking through how I completed a recent 4chan investigation. Any resources or experiences that y'all have to share I'll fold into a go-by.

Like the others, I do not have material to contribute but I am very interested in reading this guide, I was wondering recently how one would approach 4chan!
